The Mad Scientist's Desiderata

This was sparked (Girl-Genius-related pun intentional) by a comment made by seanan_mcguire, which I have shamelessly (how else?) appropriated and integrated.

In case you don't remember "Desiderata", you can find it here.

Go gleefully amid the noise and haste, for you have created it, and remember what peace there may be in obeying the voices in your head.

As far as possible demand good terms of surrender from all persons. Declaim your truth loudly and pedantically, and listen to no one, for they are all dull and ignorant; yours is the only story that matters. If others call you loud and aggressive, shoot them, for they are vexatious to your spirit.

If you compare yourself to others, you may become vain and bitter, and that's OK, for there will always be lesser persons than yourself, but none greater, and they are fools to not recognize that.

Enjoy your achievments as well as your plans, for they keep you in the public eye. Keep interested in your own career, for otherwise you might destroy the world out of boredom, and what would you do after that?

Be reckless in your business affairs, for cool equipment costs money, and you can always rob Fort Knox again. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism, which must be crushed before it gets out of hand.

Be yourself, as anything else would be a step down. Especially do not feign a conscience. Be cynical about love, for chicks dig bad boys.

Dismiss sneeringly the ideas of older scientists, and force them to surrender the doomsday devices of their youth. Build escape hatches to shield you from sudden misfortune. Dark imaginings can save your life. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness, so keep caffeine and blow-up dolls on hand.

Beyond your unwholesome amusements, drive yourself as unremittingly as you drive your minions. You are the king of the universe, far more than the kings and the stars; you have a right to be God. And because all is clear to you, no doubt you will unfold the universe, and use it to practice origami.

Therefore declare war on God, whatever you conceive him to be. And whatever your labors to achieve your one, grand aspiration, as you impose order on the noisy confusion of life, keep peace with the damnation of your soul.

When you have stripped away everyone's sham of happiness, condemned them to slavery, and broken their dreams, it will be a beautiful world.

Laugh maniacally. Strive to be the only happy one. But avoid monologuing.
