For Dave
We gather now to share our common grief
And speak of circles past, of better times
And in so doing bring ourselves relief
From sorrow's shroud by trading note and rhyme
The mind's eye sees the one we know and love
Suspenders, beard, beret, and friendly smile
With dulcimer, and buttons speaking of
Community and song. Come, stay a while
He built his house to welcome joyful crowds
So dandelions could conspire and grow
Pluck strings! Clap hands! Let voices ring out loud!
Let music reign - he would have wished it so
But oh, that this cold world should so soon end
This gentleman, this gentle man, this friend

Filk work is over
He found a new position
Driving the catbus

Thanks, Mark. I was thinking last night as I lay in bed writing my own post about Dave that it really should have been a sonnet, but I'm not skilled enough to write one.

Yes, this captures Dave the way I remember him. Sad to think that it was his passing that caused me to get on LJ in the first place.
